  2. Lot of families where quite large, all lived together, including highly valued slaves who were as much family as blood.

    1. Some slaves, maybe. Certainly not all. Don’t paint Roman slavery as some good times BS. There were kind owners and cruel owners and all in-between. For most slaves, they had few rights or say. Field slaves were basically treated as farm animals. The head of house had ultimate control of his slaves, including death without repercussion.

    2. According to "Ancient Rome on 5 Dinars a day" around the year zero there were a million people in Rome and 40% of them were slaves.
