And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

It remained sorta independent until the CPC reasserted control in 1951. So Tibet has been under direct Chinese rule for 265 out of the last 305 years. For comparision, the US didn’t get independence until 1783.
Tibet has its own language and culture, different from the Han Chinese. The Chinese themselves recognize this and attempt to quash this as it is a threat to their occupation of a neighboring country.
