    1. Its a spring summer fall food prep house, butchering, preserving salting curing canning, tanning all those essentials. Doubles as a safe shelter if say a bad storm comes or your hurt, things like that. They last long time with some basic maintenance, cause they stay ambient temp thru the seasons. Very handy structures.

    I'd love to see the construction of that era up close; the stonework is one piece of amazement and the roofs another.

    1. I agree, built to last. Question: could people today build a house or shack like that and have it last forever? Don't think so as society does not care enough about how its built to last just build and leave & hope it last.
