And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The 1944 R4D-6S "Ready 4 Duty' flying at the Shuttleworth 2025 Festival of Flight
Flew about 500 hours right seat with older "golden era" captains. Id ask Pappy if he learned in a tail wheel , nope it had a tail skid...C47 the most perfect airplane with the bigger Pratts.
if it's a R4D, there should be "Marines" painted on the side somewhere....
ReplyDeleteA close friend was a USMC pilot during the Vietnam war, both fixed and rotary. He may have flown that one. He said he flew R4Ds and R6Ds (C-118).
