  3. They were fun(!) but a bit fake. When Micky Dolenz was chosen as drummer, he had never before played drums and had to undergo emergency lessons. The Wrecking Crew made the music.

  4. Went to a Monkees concert in Charlotte, 1966 or '67. Guess who was the opening act?

    The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

  6. If you go back and listen to their records in the context of the times and just ignore the TV show and the fact that they were a contrived band, those records were as good if not better than any pop music at that time.

  8. Nesmith created the first music video apparently - he was sending a sample of his skills to someone and thought it would be a good way to show his stuff. Clever guy.
