  4. When it was flying D-AQUI was the oldest flying JU-52. It started as a Luft Hansa passenger plane in 1936, and over the years has had a variety of owners in various countries, eventually ending up back with Lufthansa. Unfortunately Lufthansa decided to retire it after discovering some internal damage and will put it on static display in Frankfurt at their conference and visitor center along with a Lockheed 1649.

  5. Aspect ratio is the the ratio of wingspan to average chord. High aspect ratio aircraft optimize for range and sacrifice maneuverability. That one looks like it would have glide ratio of forever and then some.

  6. I've flown on that plane. Before its retirement Lufthansa used to fly it around the world on a PR campaign. They brought it to Portland in 1988 and through connections, I got to go up on it twice.
