And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Heh. Maybe the question is how robust should the oil pan be?
About a year ago, I decided to change my oil myself (which I had been doing about half the time).
The drain plug was waaay too tight. I hammered on the end of the wrench to no avail. I dug out my cheater bar and it didn't budge. It wasn't until I borrowed my neighbor's high-torque impact wrench that it came undone.
The oil filter was worse. I never could get that off. So I had to put clean oil in with the dirty filter in order to drive it to the dealership (who had done the previous oil change) for their oil change.
I told them why I was there and made them print out the torque specs for all of this.
Bought a $20 12V pump from Amazon to extract motor oil. My 2014 Cayenne's oil filter is next to the engine. Simple DIY oil change. Bought a torque wrench and a 32mm to seal it at 22 lbs.
Hate that my 2023 Tacoma has to go to the dealer for a $125 oil change to keep the 60K miles warranty alive.
Hand tighten until the plug stops, then no more than 1/4 turn with the wrench or you feel the collapsible washer break. Same thing with the filter and don't forget to oil the filter seal before installing.
Don’t think that was a ‘Mercan Detroit vehicle.
ReplyDelete"That's fine. Now back it off a quarter turn and it will be perfect."
ReplyDeleteAin't nothin' a lil' JB Weld cain't fix. What I wanna know who in hell uses 13mm for anything.

Probably forgot the sealing washer (usually aluminum on foreign cars). Torqued it till it stopped leaking.
