And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

1908: Alexander Graham Bell and crew flying an experimental ‘Tetrahedral Ring Kite’ in Nova Scotia, an experiment by him to build a kite that was scalable and big enough to carry both a man and a motor.
Alexander Graham Bell was involved with the Silver Dart that same year. IIRC it was the fourth aircraft built and flown in the USA and the first aircraft flown in Canada. Al_in_Ottawa
