    I never understood how the hood could open left or right

    1. I would think the two rods that retract when you turn the handle
      would be the hinge pins, thus releasing that side to be lifted. Also
      releasing both would allow removing the hood altogether.

    1. On the other hand, when the rain really starts coming down hard, you want to slow down - and when you take your foot off the gas, the wipers speed up double-time. So there's that.
