    1. Nah, they use the bow of the ship to break through.

    2. Bow is designed to slide up onto the ice sheet and the weight of the ship cracks the ice.
      The first icebreaker ship was designed by the Russian Admiral defeated by Japan in 1905.

  4. Look for Pics and Vids of those monster Nuclear-Powered Icebreakers used by the Russians. Some are half the size of an Aircraft Carrier, with twice the Shaft Horsepower, and Mash Through 30 Feet of Ice at 10 Knots. And you'll see People and Cars on the Ice like that, too. Not like the pussified 'West'.
