    1. Me too. I used to pick up brass and go through the garbage at the local unsupervised public range. It was pretty amazing what you'd find there. The best thing was the old ammo boxes, sometimes with the price stickers still on them.
Remember when Winchester 7mm Remington Magnum was $7.00 a box?

There were always plenty of large hard liquor bottles in the garbage bags, which is why I never shot there.

    2. I remember buying a box of 22s for less than a dollar at Thrifty Drug store and nobody batted an eye. We don't have a gun problem, we have a coward and thug problem.

    3. Dad had a box of that, but a bit more recent. Yellow box Silvertip 150 grain Super-X. That Western box with a bear is older I'm sure.

    4. A box of 22s for less than a dollar? The hardware store sold SuperX 22LR for 48 cents a box including the tax back in the 70's. It was $4.50 for a brick after taxes.

  2. Yes, but don't forget about Bella Twin. The tiny Canadian indigenous gal that dispatched the world record Grizzly from 50 feet away by calmly reloading her single-shot .22 for five shots between the eye and the ear.

No bear hunt tale will ever top Bella's.

    1. With Longs! Not even Long Rifles! Amazing! In an interview she described the spot between the eye and ear as a soft area in the bear's skull.

  3. Probably works better on werewolves.

  4. It's fine, if the cartridge and bear illustrations are on the same scale.

  5. I have several boxes of Winchester silver tips with the bear.
They are 250 grain .348 for the legendary Model 71.

    1. And I'll bet he never felt an ounce of recoil.
      Funny how that works.

    2. "Grandpa shot a lion, an elephant, a rhino, and a polar bear on safari once.

The people at the zoo were seriously pissed off...

  7. 1800 ft-lbs. Maybe ineffective on the cocaine bear.

  8. You-all got me thinking, so I went looking. I have a 20 round box of Remington 7MM Mauser 175 grain soft point with 7 left inside the box. It has an ERNST (Seattle old store Sporting goods) $6.15....I must have shot the others just for fun in the 1970's.
Found the above across the street from the front door of the bar I managed waay back then on Aurora North. We always left by the side doors after work, 2-3AM. Somebody was out to get one of us....Whew......
