And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I caught my wife soaking my 14" cast iron skillet in dish soap last night. It ruined the smooth carbon as it is now pitted. I am going to burn it out and re-season it this weekend.
All of my cast iron I bought at yard sales or estate auctions. I have 5 frying pans from a 3" to a 20" and a 18" Wok. I loaned my dutch oven to my niece when she went camping 4 years ago and I doubt I will ever see it again. I rarely used it.
Is there some reason Lodge leaves the inside of the pans rough? Every old cast iron pan I have is smooth. And they work great. The only one that is hard to clean is the rough as a cob Lodge. (clean cast iron- wash with water, no soap, scrape off any build up, stick it on the stove to warm and dry and re-oil with fat.)
If you ever have a chance to visit a brick-and-mortar Lodge store, I HIGHLY recommend it. You will find more cool items (and gadgets) there than you could imagine.
My wife said she would divorce me if I brought another cast iron anything home. I've got 2 Iron Age & 1 Birmingham Stove pans in the electrolysis bucket that I found at Goodwill. She should know better than let me drop stuff off at that place.

ReplyDeleteIf I had a wife that gave such an ultimatum, I'd sure tell her I'd miss her, eventually.
