An early morning palm tree fire on Christmas day in Los Angeles.

  2. They start when a ner'er do well lights the bottom of the dead frond skirt. Fan palms are basically high functioning grass. Palms grow out of the center, when the the growth center grows away from the frond it dies leaving a down pointing, very flammable frond. Then there is a hollow between the skirt and the trunk. Makes a great place for critter habitat and chimney fires. The not a tree usually lives.
    A back yard trim and clean up, for a palm that size, would have been about #400 ten years ago, depending on complicating circumstances.
    Oh yeah, each frond stem has shark teeth full length, both edges. Fun times.
