Stay fed for almost two weeks

  1. Back decades ago my mother fed my then 3-year-old daughter a can of Dinty Moore delayed action, belly bomb stew a few hours before she and I boarded an international flight to Europe. It was a 6-hour, 3 barf journey that's been etched in my memory for years. Believe me, the "stews" did not appreciate the reheated stew. Thanks for reviving the memory, CW

  2. I keep plenty stocked all the time.
But that amazon price is outrageous.
    $52.48 for 12 cans + shipping.
Walmart has em for $2.44/can and if you buy $35 worth you get free shipping.
The cans are heavy so the shipping at amazon will be substantial.

  3. A dozen 15oz cans of Beef stew, a dozen 15oz cans of your favorite chili, 6 (or so) cans of chicken meat, a flat of canned vegies, enough rice (in bags) to fill a 5 gal plastic bucket w/lid.
Put it all in a plastic tub, put the tub in the closet and forget about it until you get hungry and (for whatever the reason) you can't get more food.

    1. Not to get into mission creep and need a second bucket but; to the bucket I'd add 3-4 packages of spaghetti or pasta of choice. perhaps toss in a few instant soup packets. Spices; in ancient times, todays common spices, were nearly as prized as gold. Dollar stores have an abundance of spices in handy containers. Pickup a half-dozen containers of black pepper, cayenne or chili pepper, garlic powder, cinnamon and a 26 oz. container of salt.
Even rain water may get icky and liquid bleach aside from being bulky, has a narrow shelf life. Calcium Hypochlorite is available powdered or granular and has a lengthy shelf life. Using 1/4 teaspoon per 55-gallon container of water, a one pound container of Calcium Hypochlorite will treat beaucoup gallons of water. Everyday treatment of smaller quantities of water involves first creating a “stock solution”. In turn, the “stock solution” is used in the same manner as regular chlorine bleach. Very carefully read up on use and storage of Calcium Hypochlorite.

    1. Maybe a mayo sandwich on white bread will be more to your liking?

  5. I like to add a can of peas, string beans and some corn. Basically what ever left overs in the fridge. Also put two slices of white bread at the bottom of the bowl. Bulks it up.

  6. Even comes in its own heating vessel (be sure to cut vents in top of can) if desired.

Rob - Thanks for bucket meals idea.

    1. Never cook canned food in the can. There is a liner in there not good for you.
