Impressive

  1. it must be a thing of form follows function. its real purpose is hidden behind all the camouflage paint. it might be to hide from radar. it does not appear to be able to hide from the eye in the sky. reminds me of the Monitor and the Merrimack.

  2. Centuries of shipbuilding. Some of the most beautiful creations of mankind. And it evolves to this horrible looking vessel (not denying it might be effective).

    1. I’m thinking, they had the plans upside-down?

  3. Entire series being mothballed or moved to rear line training, gun with no ammo, constant mech problems, LCS junk all of them!

    1. Awfully expensive for what in the aviation world would be a primary trainer.

A sort of Chevy Vega of the maritime community.

  4. Its why the Surface Warfare guys call them Little Crappy Ships - able to float, but little else, and even that with some difficulty.

Proof that design by committee, 'evolving designs', and no clear role for 'littoral' ships brought on this monstrosity.

  5. Look impressive but brings zero capabilities to the table in terms of warfighting. I do technical writing for this thing and they are useless. Someone had the grandiose plan to forward deploy them in Singapore/ Problem is by the time they get there, they are so broken they spend 8-% of their deployment tied to a pier being repaired. The sailors do NO maintenance on them. Contractors do everything. I wrote a repair package to replace the lock on a file cabinet for gawds sake.

Useless ships that have no mission but the navy keeps building them.

  6. To rub it in, the Russians have picked up on the modular concept. Their ships are smaller, conventional hull design, with a much bigger gun (at least 76 mm) plus built-in air defense and antiship missiles, several machine guns and auto cannons, plus an attack helicopter. Moreover, the Russian modules for air defense, antisubmarine warfare, etc., actually exist and were tested this summer. The Russian ships will be deployed soon.

A WW II Fletcher was more heavily armed than any of these newer ships.

  8. My thoughts on the little crappy ship are covered so well above, that I can't really add anything else.

  9. The reason it hides so well from radar is because radar is designed to track moving objects.

    1. Obama built some, but the concept and design go back to Baby Bush and Rumsfeld. Cursed be all three of their names.

LCS 4 is the Coronado, scheduled to be decommissioned next year after 6 years in service. Consider that the 4 Iowa Class Battleships operated for over 40 years off and on with over 20 years of active service.

    2. No, this evil little crappy shit was Vern Clark's all the way. It was revolutionary and transformational and as said above, proved absolutely useless. It has no role except maybe with 10th fleet in the drug war but the Mexican cartels could probably sink these by the dozen with very little effort.

  11. The jet drive in them had such cavitation problems they spent more time tied to the pier for repairs than they spent at sea.

  12. *Impressive"??? Please tell me that was sarcasm!
One more physical manifestation of the 20+-year ROT of our Navy.
Anybody associated with LCS voluntarily should have committed seppuku long ago
