And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The F-22 has a single axis (up/down) vectored thrust. While the multi-axis mechanism IS nice to look at, the increased complexity and weight penalty is probably not worth it.
After I started watching the video I realized I had seen it before. True, it's an impressive display at most any airshow, but do these abilities bring anything new to modern air combat? I'm certainly not a pilot, but I would like to hear the input from someone who knows of the valid tactics utilizing these features.
There may be cooler things than vectored thrust - but not that many.

Apparently the Russians with their Su-37 thought it was worth it.

DeleteHere's some additional reading on thrust vectoring, and why some consider it non-essential in certain circumstances...
