An interesting and worrying comparison.
As of April 2, 1865, a week before Lee surrendered to Grant and for all practical purposes brought the Civil War to an end, one ounce of gold could be bought with about $1,450, Confederate.
As of April 21, 2012, one ounce of gold could be bought with about $1,650, USA.
So, just before the Confederacy collapsed, Confederate money was worth more, in terms of what it would buy in gold, than our own money is now.
What should we think of that?? The rebel money is higher quality than what we use today.
