Check it out

Andrea Pozzo painted this ceiling in the Sant'Ignazio church, in the late 1600's.  The trick is, that is a flat ceiling.

The painting was devised to make an observer, looking from a spot marked by a brass disc set into the floor of the nave, seem to see a lofty vaulted roof.

Imagine the work that went into this.  Very impressive, indeed.
