And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Chief Big Spring and Wolf Eagle (aka Buffalo Chief of the Blackfoot) stand in front of tipis .
I am currently reading a book on the Commanche Indians. They are reputed to be the best horsemen and the best and most ferocious fighters of all of the American Indian tribes. One standard item of dress that they had for centuries, is the buffalo "skull cap." They later adapted the feather headdress, but it was not until the 1870's.
at one time i had many Yakima and Paiute friends who still lived somewhat like that. they were great and wonderfull people. my grandparents were honorary members of the Yakima tribe and were allowed to fish and net for salmon with them on the columbia river when the falls were there, before the dam. i have been removed from that part of the world for a long time now.
I am part of the Mohawk Community in Upstate New York. Most of our young people here don’t speak or know the language, nor have an interest.I am in my eighties. Although there are a handful that are learning, but it’s a lifelong thing. Too many interferences out there.
