And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I'm reading a very interesting book about the Comanches and the Indian Wars of the 1850's - 1870's. For the most part the Native Americans has bows and arrows for weapons that were used so effectively. When they did have a rifle, it was one of these ancient muzzle-loading single shot pieces of crap. For the most part, since the rifles was able to put out a max of 2 rounds per minute and since the Indians were normally on horseback, the guns were normally used for the first volley and then relegated to being carried and not shot again.
A rifle a sword and a pipe what else do you need?
ReplyDeleteSpringfield Model 1863, Catlinite pipe, cavalry saber. Sitting on a buffalo pelt and a cottonwood tree. That bear claw necklace is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteA year before the Battle at the Little Big Horn.
