  2. showing Lockheed heritage, right on the nose. Lockheed was spelled originally as "Loughead" IIRC, a fact I picked up in two great aircraft nerd magazines, "Airpower" and "Wings", published in alternate months, '70s.

    1. Name change because they became tired of telling people how to pronounce it.

      A friend, sir name of Riley, had spelt it in the old manner. Over twenty letters, but if you understood the old language of the highland Scots, you would see it was a perfect pronunciation.

  4. 6 fifties like that close together, had to have made a terrible mess out of another jet.

    1. In theory, yes.
      But it was a crappy dogfighter because it wasn't generally fast enough against MiGs, and they only claimed 6 MiG kills.
      But the .50s did great work for strafing in the CAS role.
      By the end of the Korean War, the only ones flying only had recon cameras.
