And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Sadly, Loretta Swit passed in May this year. There are now only four living main cast members M*A*S*H still alive: Alan Alda, Jamie Farr, Mike Farrell, and Gary Burghoff. RIP Loretta! Thanks for such a wonderful show.
Heard her interviewed long ago. She was asked what she thought of Alan Alda. She told the story of a script meeting where the cast, directors, and producers were discussing ideas for the episode. She put out an idea and the big wigs cold shouldered it with a yeah, that's nice Loretta, thanks sort of response. A few minutes later Alda put out the same idea. She thought he was being a louse! The wigs were all enthused about it, great idea Alan! He turns to them and asks If it is such a good idea, why wasn't it a good idea when Loretta brought it up! She was impressed.
Too bad she had to play that grouchy hateful part, she's a really handsome woman, with a wonderful smile, which on MASH she rarely got to display in her role.
Loretta Switt, in uniform on the set ...

ReplyDeleteSaw her recently in an old Hawaii Five-O. Was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteShe was a screeching, antigun liberal way back in the '70s.
