And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My first winter at Minot AFB ('74), we had drifts that went over the roofs of Base Housing. Was in Plattsburgh '87-2005, and Burlington '05-'14 and had to dig out of a few of those as well.
I was there in 63, when we had to climb out the second-story windows. The base would do impromptu skating rinks which would freeze through in less than half an hour.
My dad has a picture of his house, a 2 storey, and driveway in 1970. The upstairs window looks out on what appears to be the front yard, but its 13' of snow. The U-Haul truck in the driveway shows only by the aluminum cap on the box...

ReplyDeleteI remember it snowing like that up at Plattsburgh AFB back when my Dad was a B-47 Radar/Navigator/Bombardier in SAC. I might be getting old.
