  2. Way back in the dark ages of the late 1970s, for one semester I had a roommate in the dorms who was a Vietnamese "Boat Person". He really didn't have a major...he was focused on learning English (well that, and smoking dope when I wasn't in the room).

    Anyway, he'd frequently ask me to explain certain phrases or words, which as he was new to English, was completely understandable.

    Then one day, he asked me to help him understand what the word "though" meant. To this day, I have no idea how to do that.

  4. Retired from the military years ago and spent hafl of my active time over seas. Foreigners would tell me English and it's slang is very hard to learn. Guessing the reason it's a mixed pot of Italian, French, German and on and on.
