The Bluing!

  1. The polishing comes first. Lots of polishing. Just like painting a wall or car, if the surface isn't good the finish won't be either.

    1. 100% agree. It takes several stages of polishing, increasing the fineness of the grit at each step to achieve a mirror surface. You can't have perfect bluing without a perfect surface.

  2. Recently I saw for sale those exact scales for that same model revolver. They are signed on the inside by John Wayne. $650

  3. I love good bluing. I have bought rifles just for their bluing and wood.

The finish on most of today’s firearms is crap. Don’t bs me that a good finish adds too much to the price, or spooks the game or any of that. It’s called pride in your wirk. Quality. Skill.

I have a 137 year old military rifle that still works. The stock is ancient, the color case hardening long since gone, and all exposed metal has acquired a natural browning. But take it apart, and the under side of the barrel is still perfectly blue and smooth.

  5. A 3 & 1/2" Model 27 to replace the one traded off in a moment of insanity is next on my list. I have a couple of 4" Model 28's and they're nice guns but they just aren't the same.

  6. A 3-3 1/2" N frame S&W, a serious fighter in 357, 44 special, 44 mag, 45 acp, 45 Colt.
I'd give somebody's left nut for one of those. Any one!
