And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
100% agree. It takes several stages of polishing, increasing the fineness of the grit at each step to achieve a mirror surface. You can't have perfect bluing without a perfect surface. Al_in_Ottawa
I love good bluing. I have bought rifles just for their bluing and wood.
The finish on most of today’s firearms is crap. Don’t bs me that a good finish adds too much to the price, or spooks the game or any of that. It’s called pride in your wirk. Quality. Skill.
I have a 137 year old military rifle that still works. The stock is ancient, the color case hardening long since gone, and all exposed metal has acquired a natural browning. But take it apart, and the under side of the barrel is still perfectly blue and smooth.
A 3 & 1/2" Model 27 to replace the one traded off in a moment of insanity is next on my list. I have a couple of 4" Model 28's and they're nice guns but they just aren't the same.
The polishing comes first. Lots of polishing. Just like painting a wall or car, if the surface isn't good the finish won't be either.

Recently I saw for sale those exact scales for that same model revolver. They are signed on the inside by John Wayne. $650

Sweet piece. Elegant stopping power.

ReplyDeleteA 3-3 1/2" N frame S&W, a serious fighter in 357, 44 special, 44 mag, 45 acp, 45 Colt.
ReplyDeleteI'd give somebody's left nut for one of those. Any one!
Smith vs Colt, back in the day, trying to out do each other in finish and fit.
