Someone explain this. What's up with the fire, and the meaning of the hand signals?

  4. The flaps of the blower are closing in the end. Shutting it down.

  5. Fire burnouts used to be a thing before insurance companies shut them down. Usually was done with Top Fuel Dragsters. Pour down some gasoline and hit the gas pedal and a thrown match. In this case I'd guess the tires got hot enough to light it off and as to the hand signal, looks like a modified thumbs up.

  6. Might be using a home made flame thrower, bleed off some exhaust gas from a header pipe to a seperate piece of tubing out back, spark plug and coil, fuel pump, simple injector, and some nitrous laced with gasoline

  7. That is normally the conclusion of the burnout when the tires explode and the rear of the car catches fire briefly! The engine is running really rich at maximum rpm. The hand signals tell the spectators that this is the finale and crowd goes wild. In the meantime in the stands you are choking on tire smoke and race fuel. Burn out comps are very popular here in OZ. Often run in conjunction with a drag meet. Google Summernats for more action.

  8. No gasoline. It would light off from just the fumes before laying it down. Back in the day it was called a "bleach burnout". Used to make the tires more "sticky" to get maximum grip. Fell out of practice when results showed no difference.
