Over the past three weeks I've seen three Ospreys flying off with a fish in their talons

  1. I'd guess the Sacramento River is lined with Osprey nests up your way.

    1. I'm not even trying to see them, as I'm working, but many times when I look up and out the window, there one is. I've seen so many I can ID them from a distance judging just by the way they are flying.
As an aside, the Turkey Vultures are the world experts on soaring with a minimum of flapping. They got it down.

    2. Dynamic Soaring. It's an amazing thing. My all-time best cowdog taught me all about it. He hated Buzzards.
      Long story.

  3. I saw one last year with a snake as it was going to land in it's nest, I wasn't quick enough to get a picture.

  6. So much for Rachel Carson's scare about DDT killing them all off.
