  1. Something snagged or come undone. Except maybe for a photo op, I cannot think of another reason to be in the rigging while at sea.

  3. Guessing he's on the main mast and given whats already up he is either getting ready to set, or is striking the main fisherman topsail. Mariette as she is pictured here is a little different because most gaff headed schooners do not have spreaders.
