And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

King George V of the UK and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia (1913)
The Czar waited too long to get himself and his family to safety. The same could be said about Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Power and ego go hand in hand. Sad.
If Nick had done as his cousin had done in relinqishing his power to the Duma, the world would be a whole dfferent place right now. The fuckwad got his kids killed.
Just my opinion but these two were incompetent empty eyed psychopaths who could have done a lot to prevent the meaningless slaughter of WWI the results of which we are still living with today. "The Royalty" - don't get me started.
Nick's kids didn't deserve that. Damn Commies everywhere for all time!

ReplyDeleteBecause Kaiser Wilhelm did such a good job not caving to the rabble, right?
DeleteYou're not a student of history., I see. So it is somewhat understandably why you would think his capitulation would save his family.
Delete1913, the beginning of the end
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of frippery.
ReplyDeleteThey both look rather flamboyant.

ReplyDeleteThe 17th Amendment was passed in 1913 as well. It has changed the course of American history! And not for the better IMHO.
