And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Had a Maine Coon, loved the bite game. Had to watch him, loved to sneak up and set those fangs in your flesh, then run. Little bastard. Had to have it out with him, teach him the human ruled, he was still a nasty little effer. Let you pat him once, maybe. Definitely one pat cat.
This past May we were visiting our daughter to celebrate her graduation with her master’s degree. I was minding my own business on the couch when her demon cat reared up from the floor, grabbed my right hand with her claws and bit down hard on the first knuckle of my index finger. The wife is a wound care nurse and she cleaned and dressed the wound. Two days later, the swelling got worse and the pain increased. I went to the urgent care where they gave me a tetanus shot and put me on oral antibiotics. A week later, the swelling was still bad and they sent me for an MRI. The diagnosis was a bone infection and they admitted me to the hospital. Surgery the next day and 4 days in the hospital with massive doses of IV antibiotics. It’s been months and I’ve recovered about 95% function, but still have twinges of pain from time to time. The good news is that the trigger finger still works OK.
Oh, and we warned our daughter that the demon cat was a legal liability and should be put down. Despite being very tender-hearted about the beast, she did have it euthanized. We weren’t happy about it, but it’s for the best. BTW, we have more than a dozen cats in the barn, garden, and greenhouse and none of them bother me, including the feral ones.
FAFO, feline style.
