  1. 4 ea 18 cylinder R-3350 Duplex Cyclone engines with power recovery turbines and no computers or fault codes. If something went wrong you just had to figure it out.

  2. A friend was flight engineer on EC-121s. They often landed with one caged. Like Clark to Wake. An occasional engine fire after takeoff. More exciting, an engine fire during approach to land.
    Another friend was pilot of the same type. His experience with the -121 was very similar.

    I think it'd take a guy an entire shift to change out the spark plugs.
