And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Many years ago, I lived in Illinois, just east of St. Louis. My neighbor friends' dad was a mechanic at a very small airport. Next to it was a community college that had a curriculum on aircraft stuff. I figure it must had been airframe and powerplant (A&P) now after working for Boeing so often.
Anyhow they had a static mounted engine from a B-17 that emergency landed there during the war but could not fly out on the short runways. So, the AAF donated the plane (must have been right near the end of the war) to the college. VERY loud but utter mesmerizing to see it run.
Back then they used names like "Typhoon & Tempest", today they use "Rainbows & Butterflies".
ReplyDeleteI've seen, heard, and felt truck-mounted Merlins and and Allisons and Pratts. Even a NAZI era pulse jet.
ReplyDeleteWho wants to ride in that truck at 200MPH? Not me!
