And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I jumped off an 85 foot high swinging bridge once. The acceleration due to gravity was quite impressive. I was about 20 years old then. 45 years later, NO!
I've jumped from about 30' and it seemed to take longer to hit than I expected. I went in feet first and that squeezed about half the air out of my lungs. Went down pretty deep and it took awhile to get back to the surface. Got past that learning curve and did it about dozen more times, even doing a couple flips.
The cliffs at Southpoint on the island of Hawaii (southern most point in the US) are between 40-60 feet. Beautiful spot, and we (wife and two grown sons) have jumped off multiple times when there. Nice clear water, good launching spots. There is also a lava tube skylight you can jump into - but you have to time it right, and I wouldn't do it if the waves are too high. But lots of fun when you can do it. This link shows both jumps - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzYCClLNXQI As an added bonus, the green sand beach (olivine) is right next door...
Living in KY as an older teen, we would cliff jump. One of the mates was a trained diver on the HS team. He dove head first beautifully and successfully from 90ft. I did 45 ft feet first several times. I quickly learned to jack knife after entering the water. It's a long way back to the surface without the jack knife.
there are two fools involved here.
ReplyDeleteNot me. without a doubt.
ReplyDeleteNope. Not unless you are shooting at me and I have no other option. Maybe not even then.
ReplyDeleteI would /have done that feet first only from that kind of height. Not head first …no way.

ReplyDeleteI did a lot of cliff diving and jumping off piers. Shown here is beyond what I did. Seeing a good diver is thrilling.
ReplyDeleteBased on 4+ seconds of fall time, this is 200+ feet

Of course, they could have slo-mo'd it in the middle of the jump, so the height would be lower...

I'm impressed that the second idiot held on to the camera... otherwise.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nopity nope.
ReplyDeleteThere was a guy in the news recently that jumped off some cliff & bounced of the rocks while his wife was filming. Hell of a way to kill yourself.
