Steely eyed rocket men and their steed.

  1. They went to the Danger Zone.

Blackbirds used to fly out Beale Air Force Base, which is between Marysville and Grass Valley, California.
General Chuck Yeager retired to a home near Grass Valley and was very good friends with Del Riebe, who founded Riebe's Auto Parts. I heard this story from a friend of Bart, who was Del's son. He too was also a very close friend with 'The General', which is what they always referred to him as at the store.

The General, being who he was, was able to fly anything the Air Force had, anytime he wanted to. On one particular day he flew an SR-71 out of Beale AFB, over Idaho, up to Alaska and then back home to Beale. In the process he was refueled in-flight at least twice. He told Bart that in that afternoon's day trip his plane burned a quarter of a million pounds of fuel.

God Bless America and the memory of The General. And also to the memory of the SR-71 and the men that flew them.

  2. Are those cast members from the TV show?
Several times I had lunch with the real 'Six Million Dollar' man. Smart, highly intelligent, are understatements. So too, gracious, welcoming, warm, friendly.

I've known two Blackbird pilots. One said he'd probably not fly again because few else could match that steed.

  3. The SR-71 played a major roll to keep the communist block in line.

  4. Dude, love you long time here, name of Jim. I have in my possession, as well as listed on eBay, a print, numbered 5 of 6, by a Don McMordie. It has only 5 peers, and they are not currently available for sale. SR-71 Blackbird. I hope McMordie was a member of a crew, maybe a ground's crew, a mechanic...
