And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Playtime with a few old mattresses (Rochdale, England 1980s) -- Nobody's mom approved of this activity.
We did similar when I was a youngster. We'd pile straw beneath a tree and jump from the high branches. Unfortunately we had to check the pile each morning because older boys would hide large stones and sticks in the pile.
Of course I would, and did. It was fun. The bridge was low and the water underneath was fine. Weren't you ever a kid? We also swung from a rope off of a 20ft high cliff into a lake. (The water was about 20ft. deep there.)
There's a lake somewhere north of Tacoma, Washington that has, or had, a 40-foot dock with platforms every 10 feet. I went swimming there once, maybe in 1976. My friends and I went off each dock in succession. I jumped, did not dive, off the 30- and 40-footers. Not bad at all. I'd do it again, but would be very surprised if the lawyers have allowed that dock to stay.
If a friend jumped, would I? Wellll....16 yrs old, skipping school on a hot day, maybe a few beverages and a dare on the main bridge across the lake, why not? Only problem..... As soon as I started my jump from the railing I turned to my friend only to lock eyes with my mother who just happened to be driving across the bridge at that EXACT moment. (My mother hardly ever crossed this bridge). In shock, I forgot to breathe and thought I would drown before I got back to the bridge pier Long story short...that ended my bridge jumping and my car and driving privileges for a while, but I'll never forget the incredible coincidence of that moment.
Kids being kids, and daring ones at that.
