Was FWD an option or was this an aftermarket custom?

    1. That's not Front Wheel Drive. Is a 4X4. Has a differential in both axle assemblies. The front has locking hubs, so you can engage the wheels when needed, otherwise you want them freewheeling.

    2. If you were asking if it was a factory 4WD, it's newer than 1946, the first Dodge pickup truck year. Willy's were earlier, and Ford later.

    1. You wouldn't be saying that if you'd ever driven though heavy snow in a rig that had 9.00 X 16 non directionals. They are the most efficient 'self-cleaning' mud and snows I've ever seen. They're absolutely amazing.

    2. Where I'm at there is less and less snow each year. Besides, the truck would look more proportional with bigger meats. In the army in 1977 in Germany I got a battalion level award for driving 21,000 miles accident free during simulated winter combat maneuvers in a 6x6 5 ton truck pulling a 5 ton bolster trailer. 1st Sq, 1st Plt, Delta Co, 54th Engr Ban. I wrote the book.

    3. That's how the factory 4x4's looked in the 50's onward, until the big/fat tire era, maybe late 90's. Now even the 4x2's look like a 4x4, which lessens the attraction of a real 4x4. Most of the time, those skinny tires work better than the fat ones, are cheaper, and the wheels and tires weigh much less, and give better fuel mileage.

    1. Go to legacyclassictrucks.com to see what's available. Then sell your house to be able to pay for it. Sigh.

Sometimes I think it would be worth it.
I know if I was ever diagnosed as being terminally ill I'd do just that and then I'd hit the road.
