And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Aaaahh yessss, amen to that! This pic is one of my fav computer wallpapers I haven't dug out in too long. I grew up in Seattle back when it was a nice (and safe) place, and went to the Seafair hydro races many times. oh the memories this pic brings back! Thanks for posting it!
I too, grew up in the Seattle area. Seafair was the biggest celebration of the year. Miss Bardahl, boo, a Detroit boat! Miss Thriftway! Slo Mo Iv and Slo Mo V! Bardahl was a pretty boat, though. Thanks for the pic.
Used to get down to Madison,Indiana for the Regatta. They would bring out the old Miss Madison for display. Similar hull and era. To hear three or four of them out on the Ohio river with those big Allisons and Rolls echoing off the Kentucky hills is electrifying.
My Seattle employer had excess warehouse space that was rented to several of the hydro race teams. 30+ Merlin and Allison engines on stands was spectacle.
Augie Busch used to keep Miss Budweiser at his place in Pass A Grille just outside St. Pete Fl.....when we were kids it was a blast hearing that thing crank it up in the pass behind his house....

I grew up 5 miles east of Renton. We never saw the races, but we could sure hear them, several miles away as the crow flies.
