  1. Fat Albert! Heck of a plane to de-ice before takeoff in that kind of weather.

  2. you should consider the maintenance manhours per flying hour of these Lockheed Aluminum Overcasts. Particularly including the work done during IRAN and periodic and iso type maintenance. absolutely expensive as hell to fly. the hell with re-engining the Buffs, re-engine these pigs and for Gods sake, trash and re-design the hydraulic systems. I have never worked on anything with as many banjo fittings which leak at the drop of the proverbial hat-or temperature. Sweetheart to fly. easy to load/unload. many complex legacy systems which need to go. At least the wings were fixed-and the price of that would shock the hell out of you.
C-5M picked up the name fat albert-stolen from the B-737-from the media who as usual know nothing. We who crewed C-5A called them FRED-fantastically ridiculous economic disaster-officially frowned on by HqUSAF.

    2. We were calling the C-5 Fat Albert 40 plus years ago; that was long before the C-5M.

  4. From the blog Air Force Technology:

"The AN-124 ... developed by Antonov, is the world’s biggest military transport aircraft thanks to its giant take-off weight of 392t. The An-124-100 can carry a payload of 120t and is capable of transporting heavy and oversized cargoes, as well as various combat vehicles.

  5. Looks like the setting for the joke that ends "General, it's zero-three hundred, I'm an Airman E-2 pumping shit out of an airplane in Thule Greenland. Just what do you think you can do to me?"

  6. just as an aside, the F22 costs $33,538.00 to operate for one flight hour. the F-35 costs $28,455.00 per flight hour. the A-10 costs $5,944.00 per flight hour. GAO numbers and doesn't include purchase price which would make your blood boil.
the point here is; what braindead jackass decided to replace the A-10 with the F-35?

  7. "Fat Albert" was the nickname of the Orange 747 flown by Braniff Airlines in it's twilight days.
