And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
You know we wouldn't dream of sending men into combat with a weapon they never fired for real or only fired in practice with simulators. We don't do it with riflemen, machine gunners, tankers, etc. I wonder how many of those guys firing TOWS and other missiles had never actually fired one. I could see the difference just 2 years later as I watched Marines engage an ambush. It was elegant.
