Facebook Removed from S&P List of ‘Ethical’ Companies. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks

Facebook has been removed from Standard & Poor’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Index after the company received a score of 22 for social responsibility and only 6 for governance, out of a possible 100, scoring extremely poorly.

Reid Steadman, S&P’s social and governance chief, stated that the growing number of privacy concerns around the company including “a lack of transparency as to why Facebook collects and shares certain user information,” resulted in low scores for the firm. S&P cited the Cambridge Analytica scandal as one of the reasons for the tech giant’s poor performance.

Facebook's lawyers alway defend the company's looting of everyone's information by stating that there is no expectation of privacy when people post, and that's true to an extent.  However, no one expects Facebook to sell their info to anyone with a dollar to give them for it.

It's a question of can you vs. should you.

  1. I refuse to do any Social Media. Years ago I saw the "trendy" internet communications platforms being used as individuals means of acquiring their 15 minutes of fame. I don't need the ego rush.

    1. The big allure is that it's "free" and you can stay "in touch" 24/7. What people don't realize is that they are actually the commodity being sold.

  2. Funny how the ethical violations are concerned with money-making, while the ethical issues of disproportional censorship of opposing political views remains without mention or consideration. The Constitution and Bill of Rights talk about our God-Given Freedoms. I guess those weren't worth a mention, just stick to the profits please.
