And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Laphroaig is distilled in Islay, off the west coast of Scotland and a long way from the Highlands. It is very much an acquired taste,very "peaty", something like distilled cigarette butts.
And if you DO go, take me with you! Maybe a stop over on Islay, for that peaty goodness.

ReplyDeleteThat's an apt description, Melody, but part of the fun is being able to drink it with a stiff upper lip. Oban, much smoother.
DeleteBunnahabhain 12 year old is the least peaty of the Islays, yet very palatable. One of my favorites!
