And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
What is even more poignant is the nature of the settlement of a nation and the personal sacrifice involved in the effort. I wonder what would have happened in the Panhandle back in the 1800's if a fancy mulatto had come by and told those people, "You didn't build that!" (bucket of hot tar and some plucked geese)
Very interesting.

No trees for a proper hanging. Not worth the price of a bullet.
