Timeless wisdom

I found this over at Borepatch, punctuating a post on kids growing up, and I thought it very true.

Indeed, bringing up the next generation well is a task of decades; perhaps more properly stated as a lifetime's work.  The Greeks knew the principle well:

No great thing is created suddenly, any more than a bunch of grapes or a fig. If you tell me that you desire a fig, I answer you that there must be time. Let it first blossom, then bear fruit, then ripen.
