Slow mo video of a Ruger tossing a bullet downrange

I was surprised at the spirals of carbon thrown off by the bullet as it flies.

  1. It's a copper jacketed bullet. I don't think that's lead. I suspect that it's unburned powder residue.

  2. Cool film. I agree that the spiraling powder was probably gunpowder.

  3. Jacketed bullet. lead underneath.

It is the jacket (and/or lead) pushed aside by the rifling. Has to go somewhere. As the rifling cuts the bullet, it is compressed and pushed back to the end of the bullet. , and comes off much like a "rooster tail" behind a speedboat.
