Cool aircraft

An experimental ASI N157X airplane flies over Southern California, 1966.

Anybody know any more about this?

    1. Yes, it's a P-80 Shooting Star but it's the F-94 Starfire all weather variant of the venerable old P-80 (Shooting Star). There were quite a large number of X-type variants of this same airframe/wing design with different engine options. As you will imagine, it has a lower stall speed than an F-86, but the top end speed was simply never enough to allow the Shooting Star series to compete with the MiGs.

  3. Lockheed T-33, two seat trainer variant of the P-80. A few still flying. If you are in SoCal, visit the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, they often fly theirs.
