Now that's a really close drop.

It takes real huevos, and a touch of insanity, to fly like that.

  1. Actually it is very safe, coordinated and not as dangerous as people think.

Where were the large air tankers when the boys in Arizona needed them?

    1. It could be that the image was shot with a telephoto lens, which would tend to compress the perception of distance. I doubt that those Forest Service guys would be standing there all nonchalant if the plane was zipping by as close as it looks.

  2. That's not a telephoto lens. The crew really are close to the drop. When I was on the fire line we often dropped with engine crews just off the drop line.
