  1. There was a guy (high Plains...?) at the Quartzsite, AZ vandweller gathering years ago who was a prospector, brought his gear, set up a camp, did prospecting, socializing and education. He set a comfortable camp at the gathering.
    He'd take a 4wheeler (a quad?) and go out, pick a likely spot (bend in a dry wash), hit it with the metal detector and see if it had any promise. If it did he'd dig a sample, put it unto a canvas bag, note the (hand held) gps position of the sample, then go on looking for another.
    Later at his camp he'd work the samples to see if that location was worth a return visit. He had a large variety of equipment for working the sample like pumped water for panning & automatic panning machines. If he found a good spot he'd go back and work it for the gold.
    He said when he was around 8 years old he found a gold nugget, he was hooked! He passed on a few years back...

  3. There's still lots of gold to be found as several TV shows have followed. Aussie Gold Hunters · Bering Sea Gold and others are very interesting. Some people make millions a year.
