  5. Back when Gold was money, and money was gold.

    I recall a story of a guy who bought gold, counterfeited gold coins, and no one said a thing, as coins were scarce. It solved the immediate problem, the crisis ended, and he was quietly thanked and told not to do it any more. Which he didn't, he was a business man, not a crook.

    Dang, I wish I could recall were I must have read that. Ferguson's "Money"? I don't know.
