  2. Is this a jet-powered glider? Seems pretty cool - what does it do, take off, get to altitude, then glide back?

    1. The idea is to use the jet just to get off the ground and to the nearest rising air. After that it may be stowed away for the rest of the flight. It does give a safety margin if things turn to custard. Landing out and waiting for your crew to find and collect you and the glider is a pain for everyone.

  3. This is an Arcus J sailplane. With the retractable jet engine it can self-launch. With the engine off and retracted the owner has made flights over 3,000 km long with durations over 15 hours. A different Arcus owns the 300 km out and return speed record at 305 km/hr.

    2. Fuel capacity is about 24 gallons with 10 in the fuselage and 14 in the wings,
