And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
You know? My US Marine Vietnam veteran group visited San Antonio back in 2013. We had a nice time but when we went to visit the Alamo, I was really disappointed. Why? It's not so much a "fort" as it is a bunch of adobe in a pile.
Which is kind of funny because his first wife Vivian (Rosanne's mom) was from San Antonio.

ReplyDeleteThere was more to the whole fort than just the chapel, just like there's more to the whole story than what you saw in the John Wayne movies.
DeleteI know what you mean as me and my wife got to San Antonio about 10 years ago on a business trip and I saw the Alamo and expected more.
